Oldham’s VCs

Oldham Council is commemorating the centenary of the First World War with a look at three local men who were awarded the Victoria Cross. Volunteers have worked hard over the past few months to gather information about the soldiers and now their work can be seen in a special touring exhibition visiting libraries across the borough.

‘Oldham’s V.C.s’ tells the story of three men, Thomas Steele, Walter Mills and John Hogan, who were all awarded this country’s the highest military decoration awarded for valour for their efforts in the First World War.

The exhibition will travel to different libraries from September 5 and will spend approximately three weeks in each venue.  This is just one element in the four year project, Oldham Remembers.
