Museums and Heritage Award

Whittled down from hundreds of entries we’re delighted to announce we have been shortlisted for museum and heritage awarda Museum and Heritage Award for Excellence!

The M and H Award is an annual ceremony held for museums, galleries, heritage organisations and individuals. It celebrates the hard work and dedication of the organisations and staff.

The award categories cover all aspects of the cultural sector from volunteer of the year and customer service to international exhibition award.

The standard was very high this year and every place on the shortlist was hard fought‘.
Bernard Donoghue, Director of ALVA.

This year we have been shortlisted for the ‘Project on a limited budget’ award. Up against five other galleries and museums we’re delighted to have been selected for our early years projects GO Baby and GO Explorers.

Together GO Baby and GO Explorers form our early year programme of activities. Each week, during term time, babies and toddlers from 0 -4 take over the gallery. With the help of our three brilliant practitioners and early years assistant we transform our exhibition space into a sensory delight.Museum and Heritage Award

Using lights, materials, natural and handmade toys, music, play and movement our sessions are designed to help little ones develop and explore the gallery spaces. Originally piloted in 2013, GO Baby was a 6 week project developed with Brighter Sounds and Oldham Council’s Arts Development team. Fast forward three years and we now have a new early years project called GO Explorers which is for 2 to 4 year olds. An early years assistant, a core team of practitioners who deliver the programme each week and dedicated families.

‘The theme changes each week, covering things like colours, light and music and, because of its informal nature, you can simply turn up to the sessions that interest you and your baby most. Although, we enjoyed all the sessions so attended most weeks. Which is one of the great things about Go Baby – it’s really relaxed’.
Nicola E. GO Baby and GO Explorers parent.

A big thank you to all of our regular and new families, our practitioners, Lisa our early years assistant, to Brighter Sounds, Oldham Councils Arts Development team and everyone else who have made GO Baby and GO Explorers the great programme it is.

Fingers crossed, our next M and H Award post will be as winners!
