Good eggs!

Visitors to our After Life exhibition will be expecting to see Sean Dooley’s fantastic photographs. And there is also a fascinating selection of taxidermy specimens from the Gallery’s collections. But did you know that there is a third element?

Artist Mark Lightowler has produced three large canvases showing eggs of endangered bird species. Wildlife illustrator Mark used the collections of Gallery Oldham as his source material for these striking images. Our Natural History collections are a physical catalogue of the amazing diversity of nature and include several specimens from rare and endangered species.

Each canvas is over one metre high and is displayed alongside the original egg. The scale of these images gives visitors a chance to examine these objects in a new light.
