One event on June 5, 2022 at 12:00 pm

Join us for four days of jam-packed celebrations as we mark the first ever Platinum Jubilee in British royal history and Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years of service to the British people. We have lots going on, including our 25th Festival Oldham on Saturday and Sunday across the town centre, which features a range of outstanding local, national and international street art, music, theatre, dance performances, and whole host of other royal-themed entertainment.
We’ll also be showing Sunday’s Jubilee Pageant on the Jubilee Big Screens as we join in the celebrations in London, so don’t miss out on this landmark festivity.

Also look out for our “Royal Mile of Bunting” which Oldham Play Action Group along with Oldham Council have delivered and created to over 100 primary schools!

There is still time for families to help us with the finishing touches at our library workshops on:

  • Failsworth Library – Saturday 28 May 10am-12.30pm
  • Chadderton Library – Monday 30 May 11am-2pm
  • Oldham Library – Tuesday 31 May 11am-2pm

Thursday 2 June from 9pm, Oldham Parish Church Gardens (Ticketed event)

Enjoy an illuminous spectacle as 70 torchbearers, nominated by local residents, parade through the town centre to Oldham Parish Church, before joining the rest of the United Kingdom in the lighting of a Platinum
Jubilee Beacon.
Oldham’s specially commissioned beacon has been designed by local craftspeople and will sit amongst a royal-themed fire garden with a giant Jubilee emblem E.R. 70.
The procession arrives in the Church gardens at 9.15pm, with speeches from local dignitaries and Diu Regnare played by Oldham’s Scottish Pipe Band to follow.
The beacon will then be lit at 9.45pm alongside those across the country, before we enjoy performances from Oldham’s Lees band and Oldham Choral Society.
Oldham Parish Church bell ringers will close the occasion with a peal of twelve bells which were cast in 1922 and its original bell, cast in 1722.
Grab your tickets on Eventbrite but hurry as the event is subject to a limited capacity.

Friday 3 June 8pm, Oldham Parish Church (Ticketed event)

There will also be a special screening of “A Queen is crowned” at Oldham Parish Church. Come and enjoy the film in this beautiful setting with tea, cake and a small goodie bag of cinema snacks. All included with your ticket.

Saturday 4 June 12-5pm, Oldham Town Centre

Festival Oldham, our annual outdoor arts festival is back for its 25th year with a 2-day festival of art and entertainment!

This year we are celebrating all things royal and taking inspiration from the Monarch’s 70 year reign plus the UK and Oldham’s connections with the Commonwealth.

It’s going to be a jam packed Jubilee weekend full of amazing outdoor performances – from the whimsical to the down-right wonderful, from circus to street painting, from dazzling dance to puppetry, from playful pop to bold brass, Festival Oldham has it all and it’s FREE.

Expect to be dazzled both days by toe tapping, fist thumping live music, family entertainment and show stopping street theatre shows and plenty of creative activities to get your hands on.

Sunday 5 June 12-5pm, Oldham Town Centre

Join us Sunday at the Big Jubilee Street Party.  We will be banishing the cars from the streets and setting up tables and chairs right in the heart of Oldham Town Centre inspired by the great british tradition of jubilee street parties.

Grab some delicious food from one the many Town Centres’ eateries and enjoy a full afternoon of entertainment.

Sit back and relax or jump up and boogie in the streets to lots of great local bands on the Platinum Jubilee Bandstand  in front of the Old Town Hall.

Or enjoy a performance from one of the many strolling performers including Elton Wrong, The Cake Ladies or the Comedy Waiters.

Plus you don’t have to miss any of Sunday’s Jubilee Pageant as there will be big screens showing the celebrations in London on the Big Screens!
