A bird’s eye view
We had a special ‘flypast’ this morning as our building project moved up to the next level. A drone was deployed to carry out a photographic survey of the roof of the old Library & Art Gallery before building work starts later this year. Much of the roof and the original lantern lighting will be restored as part of this project.
Have you ever looked up and wondered about the figure on the top of the building? She holds a book in one hand and a laurel wreath in the other. Her name is Lady Wrigley and this is carved in bold lettering into her back. She was named as a snub to the local man, Colonel Thomas Wrigley, who campaigned to stop Oldham building a library and art gallery in the 1880s.
